On one hand, this is a silly showgirl inspired portrait of my own horse. On the other hand, while I painted this I thought about what it means for a show to go on—for the world to keep turning even when we’re scared, nervous, unsure, angry, devastated. Where do we find our grit? Where do we find the courage, hope, and determination not just to will ourselves to keep going but to grab the person next to us and say, “Come on, we can do this together.” Because it’s not over til it’s over.
